Hello everyone!

I am pleased to present our final editions of PRSuccess for the 2008 - 2009 school year. We not only have an excellent Spring Edition, but we also have Special Edition: Chicago that details our trip to the Windy City a few months ago. As always, the writers worked extremely hard to provide you with interesting and helpful news about the PR field. Thank you to everyone to stepped out to help edit, you took these editions to the next level of professionalism and quality. I hope that you find the information provided in these editions useful and relevant to your career and that you've enjoyed PRSuccess all year long. Hello everyone! This Monday is our final meeting of the quarter. It will be in the usual location, Scripps 111 at 6p.m. However, it will be extended until 8 p.m. so we can listen to our great speaker, Dr. Steve Iseman from Ohio Northern University and still have time for awards and a end-of-the-year celebration, complete with PIZZA!

Dr. Steve Iseman, APR, Fellow PRSA is Professor of Communication Arts/Public Relations and Director of the Public Relations Program at Ohio Northern University. He has been the faculty advisor for Ohio Northern’s award winning PRSSA chapter since 1993 and in 2003 helped guide ONU’s public relations program to recognition with PRSA “Certified for Education in Public Relations” (CEPR) status.


Iseman has served on numerous Central Ohio PRSA committees and is a past president of the chapter. In addition he is an ex officio member of the National PRSA Educators Academy Board of Directors, a reviewer for PRSA’s Certification for Education in Public Relations program, the National Faculty Advisor for the Public Relations Students Society of America and a past National Co-Chair of PRSA’s Educational Affairs Committee. Since 2004 he has represented PRSA on the Commission on Public Relations Education and was a contributor to the Commission’s 2006 report, “The Professional Bond.”


In 2004 he was awarded the “Walt Seifert Award for Outstanding Service to PRSA, in 2006 Ohio Magazine recognized him with an “Excellence in Education Award,” in 2007 he was nominated for PRSA’s Outstanding Educator Award and in 2008 he was honored with the “Tom Poling Practitioner of the Year Award.”


Prior to moving to the classroom, Iseman worked in public relations for 20+ years. During the summer of 2007 served as the first “Professor in Residence” for Fahlgren Mortine Public Relations in Columbus. Iseman has traveled extensively to speak on public relations issues and has served as an evaluator and judge for numerous public relations award competitions.

Hello everyone!

This evening we will be hopsting Terri Erlenbach and Ashley Heilman from Nationwide Better Health. Please join us in Scripps 111 at 6 p.m. to welcome these wonderful speakers.


Terri is senior director of marketing communications for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, she's responsible for all program participant communications, along with client, external and internal communications. She oversees a team of market strategists, writers and designers and executes customized communications strategies targeted at employees and members of Nationwide Better Health clients.


Prior to joining Nationwide in 2005, Terri worked in various marketing communications firms in New York City and was responsible for developing and executing health and wellness marketing strategies for Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Ortho-McNeil and drugstore.com. She also worked with many nationally respected and well-known clients such as Target.com, The Limited, Kmart, David’s Bridal and Fodors.com. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business communications from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.


Ashley is senior communications coordinator for Nationwide Better Health. In this role, she supports media relations and regional sponsorships for the company. Working in tandem with Atlanta-based Brandware PR, who supports the company's PR efforts, Ashley acts as lead client contact and has helped place Nationwide Better Health in top tier and B2B publications such as "TIME Magazine," "National Underwriter," "Employee Benefit News," "Business Insurance" and "Benefits and Compensation Solutions." She also manges the company's on-going relationships with the American Heart Association of Central Ohio and the Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon.


She has been with Nationwide since 2006, starting as an intern in the Corporate Communications department. Before joining Nationwide, she worked at The Ohio State University Athletics Communications office, writing press releases, game recaps and athlete feature stories in game-day publications for the university's 36 varsity sports. Ashley holds a bachelor's degree in communications from The Ohio State University.

Hello everyone, I hope you had a fun, and safe weekend. This week we are looking forward to welcoming Pete McGinty from Experience Columbus to our meeting at 6 p.m. in Scripps 111.

Pete McGinty joined Experience Columbus as Vice President, Marketing in August 2002. He leads and manages strategic visioning, brand development and all marketing/communications programs for Experience Columbus as they relate to convention and meeting markets, leisure tourism markets and local community marketing.

He also is in charge strategic visioning and planning and producing the organization’s annual business plan. In addition, he supervises all advertising and direct mail campaigns; collateral merchandising and publications; public relations and communications efforts; sponsorship and events programs, and oversees the Experience Columbus Web site, www.ExperienceColumbus.com.

McGinty came to Experience Columbus after working more than 20 years in the advertising agency business for various firms in positions such Account Supervision, Director of Brand Development, and Director of New Business Development.

Hello everyone. I hope midterms went well for everyone last week. This week we are very excited to welcome Zachary Bingham and Ashley Sanders from SBC Advertising in Columbus. SBC Advertising was awarded "Best Ad Agency" in 2008 by readers of Columbus CEO Magazine. These two great professionals are sure to share some wonderful insights of the communications field. The meeting will be in Scripps 111 at 6 p.m.

Zachary Bingham is the Vice President of Public Relations at SBC. He graduated with honors from the Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in 1997 with a major of public relations. He started his career in corporate communications at Ohio Health in Columbus. There he conducted media relations, internal communications, crisis communications and served as the editor of the employee newsletter. Later, Zachary moved to SBC where he managed miltiple accounts in the PR division including Donatos, several Sherwin Williams product lines and GOJO. He then started a consulting business, Infiniate Communications. He obtained clients in healthcare, environmental consulting, technology and restaurant sectors. He also served as the Public Information Officer with State of Ohio Homeland Security Task Force.

Later Zachary returned to SBC to run the PR division. He currently manages a roster of national brands such as Elmers Glue, Bob Evans, Channellock Tools, Tyco, Armstrong, Blue Rhino and AJ Wright. Zachary lives in Columbus with his wife and two kids.

Ashley Sanders is an account executive at SBC Advertising. She graduated from Ohio University's Scripps School of Journalism in 2005 with a major in PR and an emphasis on political communication. She began interning at SBC in 2004 and has never left. She began working on media relations campaigns on building products clients like Wayne Dalton Garage doors and Armstrong. Today Ashely works in account management for Elmers, AJ Wright, Bob Evans and Berry Company/Yellow Pages. Her role includes event planning, media relations and client relations, to name a few.

Both say they feel lucky to work with a bunch of great people (many of them OU grads!) and work on projects that have won numerous PRISMS and recognition from clients.

Hello everyone, I hope you all are enjoying this warm spring weather. Take a break from the heat and listen to our fabulous speaker tonight, Tammy Roberts Meyers. We will meet at 6 p.m. in Scripps 111.

Tammy Roberts Myers is Vice President, External Communications for Limited Brands, Inc. She joined Limited Brands in May 2007 where she is currently responsible for establishing and building relationships with local and national media and non-government organizations; developing and coordinating the company’s external communications and corporate CSR strategies; providing leadership counsel on issues that could impact the reputation of the company; and collaborating on communication with the brand public relations teams within the company.

Prior to working at Limited Brands, Tammy was the Director of Investor Relations and Corporate Communications at Bob Evans Farms, Inc. where she managed and directed all investor relations, corporate communications and consumer relations activities.

Tammy earned her MBA from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio.

Tammy serves on steering committees for Goodwill Industries and Children’s Hunger Alliance. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the National Investor Relations Institute.
