Fahlgren Mortine Founder's Award
Fahlgren Mortine is now accepting applications for the 2012 Founder's Award, which includes a paid, full-time summer internship and a $2000 scholarship. Additionally, interns will receive $12/ hour to work Monday-Friday from 8:30-5. Candidate must be a full-time student currently in his/ her sophomore or junior year of college. Preference is given to PR, communications and journalism majors, although all are considered. Ideally, candidates will have strong research, organizational and writing skills; a proven understanding of PR, social media, online and traiditonal media (including AP Style); talent, drive and ability to work independently and in team settings; and have previous internship experience. Fahlgren Mortine Edward Howard Legacy Internship
The competitive Edward Howard Legacy Internship is offered in the Cleveland and Dayton, Ohio offices of Fahlgren Mortine. It is a paid, full-time internship where interns are introduced to all aspects of public relations, including strategic planning, research, media relations, social media engagement, writing, internal communications, special events and online communications. The candidate must be a full-time student currently in his/her sophomore or junior year of college and while preference is given to public relations, communications and journalism majors, all applicants will be considered. Additionally, applicants should posses strong research, organizational and writing skills; a proven understanding of public relations, social media and online and traditional media, including AP style; and have the talent, drive, and ability to work independently and in team settings. 7 Internships with PR Newswire
PR Newswire in Cleveland is seeking to hire 7 summer interns who are majoring in journalism, public relations, communiations, marketing and or/ business (especially sales certificate). Interns will be conducting telephone outreach to prospective customers in order to educate and promote products and services available for small and private businesses. The position will report to one specific manager, with a chance to interact with multiple managers in both sales and support. It is designed to give a perspective of the communications and sales efforts that drive organizations such as PR Newswire. The experience will provide a rewarding perspective into customer communication, daily operations and strategic initiatives all with a focus on improving the customer experience. Candidates should have strong telephone and communication skills, excellent customer service skills, willingness to work flexible hours, and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and social media. Interns will be paid $7.70 and hour plus paid parking. PRSSA national is hosting a competition for a vacation getaway. The contest involves convening a group of 3-4 PRSSA members on campus and putting together a PR plan for Contiki Vacations. LimitLessPR- PRSSA National Conference
Grand Valley State University is hosting LimitLessPR, the regional PRSSA conference for region 6 on April 13-14, 2012 in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.
This year's conference is focused on showing particpants the many different sides of PR and the various options we have outside of corporate and agency PR. There are a wide variety of speakers from fields including tourism, non-profit, sports, health care, and many more. The day will also include many different activities and networking opportunities. On Friday, applicants may join in touring three different places in downtown Grand Rapids to see the inner-workings of a state of the art children's hospital, an innovative news hub, and a well-known PR agency. Monday's Meeting (3/5): Executive Board Elections

Senior Saturday Follow-up Twitter Chat
As an extension of Senior Saturday, the Scripps Society of Alumni and Friends is hosting a Twitter chat this Wednesday (12/29) at 7 p.m. to answer any follow-up questions students may have. Meghan Louttit and Ryan Lytle (from The New York Times and U.S. News & World Report, respectively), this year's keynote speakers, will be on the chat as well as other board members and alumni. The chat is open to anyone interested in getting some firsthand advice/information from alums. The hashtag for the chat is #ScrippsChat.

Job with Brickfish
Are you interested in social media, web and how it all works as one package for a client, in a campaign, etc.? Then, check out Brickfish based in Franklin Park, Ill. Internship with Columbus Fire
The Columbus Fire football organization is seeking a sophomore or junior wanting to gain sport PR experience in Columbus to intern this summer. The organization is a group of individuals who have a passion for football and professional development. All players, coaches and staff are unpaid volunteers. The intern must have transportation to and from home games, and transportation will be provided for road games. The internship will be approximately 10 hours per week plus time for away games. Some duties would include running social media accounts, drafting news releases and alerts, coordinating interviews and media relations, among others. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA, a love for football, a knowledge of social media and be proficient at PR writing. Interested candidates should e-mail alum Seth Goldstein with with their resume.

Online Internship with Zidisha
Zidisha, Inc is seeking a Communications Associate to begin spring quarter. Zidisha is a peer-to-peer micro-finance organization. PaRtners Conference at Ohio Dominican University
The 2012 PaRtners Conference, "Launching the PRoactive You," will be held at Ohio Dominican University on Saturday, April 21 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The conference will feature more than 20 public relations professionals, six sessions and a keynote speakers from Golin Harris Chicago. Learning Community Peer Mentor
Applications are now being accepted for learning community peer mentors for Fall 2012 and are due by Friday, March 2 at 5 p.m. This is a great opportunity for students to get involved, be a leader/mentor to first year students, and get paid while doing it! Student Volunteer for Research Expo
The 2012 Student Research and Creative Activity Expo is looking for student volunteers to help with set up, assist with activities during the event, or tear down. The expo is an annual event in which hundreds of undergraduate, graduate and medical students gather at the Convo to present their research, scholarship and creative activity. The event will take place May 3, 2012. A two hour shift is the minimum amount volunteers will be expected to work and volunteers will receive an expo t-shirt. Monday's Meeting (2/27)

Hello everyone,

For our meeting tomorrow we will be having a healthcare public relations panel featuring Erin Pope, Mary Ellen Peacock and Ashley Showen. More information about our panel speakers is below:

Erin Pope: Erin is a Media Relations Specialist at Nationwide Children's Hospital where she coordinates media interviews with local, regional and national media, writes news materials, escorts media on the hospital campus and manages Nationwide Children’s online News Room. Prior to joining the Marketing and PR department at Nationwide Children's, Erin worked at Fahlgren Mortine Public Relations where she supported a variety of clients including Kroger, Donatos Pizza, Cardinal Health and the Franklin Park Conservatory. She graduated from Ohio Dominican University in 2009 and previously interned with Riverside Methodist Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the Columbus Radio Group and Irvin Public Relations, where she gained experience in media relations and event management. She is a founding member and past president of Ohio Dominican University Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter and a member of Delta Sigma Pi. She currently serves as co-chair to the PRSA Liaison Committee and volunteers for Big Brother Big Sisters and their Project Mentor Program.

Mary Ellen Peacock: Mary Ellen, a media relations senior strategist at Nationwide Children's Hospital, has been with the marketing and public relations department at the hospital for more than six years. Mary Ellen and her team manage reactive and proactive media relations strategies for Nationwide Children's in an effort to enhance its visibility as a national leader in pediatric health care. She is a 2005 graduate of The Ohio State University (OSU) with a bachelor of arts in communication. While at Ohio State, Mary Ellen worked in sports media/public relations as student assistant in Athletics Communications (2002-05), and was actively involved in OSU's Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter (2001-05) serving as president her senior year. Currently a member of the Central Ohio Public Relations Society of America, Mary Ellen is also a professional advisor to the OSU student PRSSA chapter. She resides in Worthington, OH with her husband, Scott Peacock, who also is in public relations with Experience Columbus, and their 2-year-old jack russell terrier, Kirby.

Ashley Showen: Ashey graduated from Ohio University in June 2011 with a degree in public relations. Since graduation, she has worked as a media buyer/account coordinator at CAMC Health System in Charleston, W.Va. She is responsible for buying, placing and trafficking all media, managing the search engine marketing campaigns and co-managing the company’s social media accounts.  During her time at Ohio University, she was active in ImPRessions and PRSSA, serving as account executive, account supervisor and vice president of operations. Showen now serves as the recent grad/student engagement chair for the Scripps Society of Alumni and Friends. Showen is a member of the West Virginia chapter of PRSA and Generation Charleston, a young professionals group.
