RSS, blogging, web 2.0, social media...

The last decade has introduced a plethora of new Internet technology that has revolutionized the way people and businesses communicate with one another. As aspiring PR pros and communicators, it is critical to have much more than just basic knowledge about de.lici.us, Twitter, PROpenMic, and thousands of other services. How exactly can PR practitioners use something like Technorati and blogging in a campaign? Having web 2.0 skills on your resume is a golden ticket.

BRING YOUR LAPTOPS

PRSSA will be hosting an important 60 minute overview and tutorial of the most important web 2.0 services. Bringing your laptop with you, you will also have the opportunity to personally register on some of the sites of your choice and follow along in the presentation. If you do not own a laptop, don't worry! All services will be demonstrated live and informational material will be distributed for you to keep.

Please join us tomorrow at 6:00pm in E.W. Scripps Hall Rm. 111.

Getting your resume and portfolio online

Friday, May 2, 2008

Over lunch last week, I was introduced to Zolio.com (currently Zolio.net until July 1). The founders of the up and coming company are Bobcat alums who have created an extremely original job search site for college graduates.

Unlike similar sites that typically attract sales positions, Zolio provides:
* A way to post your entire portfolio iTunes style (think about browsing through albums)
* A resume creator (no more guessing on what format to use)
* A complete profile of your professional attributes

This is an outstanding way to direct any potential employers to your online resume. The best part is, there's no charge for membership. The founders will be returning this fall to give OHIO students a more comprehensive overview of its services. Aside from the social networking boom, there's isn't going to be a better way to get your resume posted in cyberspace.

Go to Zolio now to reserve your spot.
