Tips for Building a Network

All,

I found this article, "37 Ideas to Grow Your Job Search Network Right Now," which seems highly appropriate given tonight's discussion.

Two thoughts: 1) Don't be overwhelmed by the list, choose a few and focus on them and 2) start now so that you won't be scrambling to have a network when it's time for informational and job interviews.

Monday's Meeting, Nov. 3

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Halloween weekend. This week we are very excited to change the pace with a panel presentation by recent OU PRSSA graduates. We will be featuring a moderator who will ask the panel a variety of questions about their careers and the major challenges they faced upon entering the workforce. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all of our members to ask questions to students who sat the same seats just a few years ago.

Our three panelists now work in various public relations agencies in Columbus. They each have a interesting story to tell how they made it to where they are today and we are very excited to welcome them back to Athens.

Molly Sustar is a 2005 Bobcat graduate who currently works as an Account Manager at Northlich. She has also held positions as a Communications and Media Relations Specialist for Hospice of the Western Reserve and as an Account Executive at Fleishman-Hillard. Sustar was the National Liaison for OU's PRSSA Chapter and also served as the CEO of ImPRessions.

Mary Garrick is an Account Coordinator at SBC Advertising. She graduated from Ohio University in 2007. While on campus she served as the CEO of ImPRessions.

Hartley Mikus is an Account Executive at Fahlgren Mortine Public Relations. Before she was hired at Fahlgren, Mikus worked as a post-grad intern in the consumer division of Weber Shandwick Worldwide in Chicago, representing a variety of well-known brands, including Harley-Davidson, the got milk? campaign and M&Ms. Before she graduated in 2007, Mikus served as the President of OU's PRSSA.

Please join us at 6 p.m. in Scripps 111 for this interesting panel discussion and networking event. If you have any questions, please respond to scripps.prssa@gmail.com and make sure you follow our "tweets" on twitter (twitter.com/ScrippsPRSSA).
