Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well during this busy time of the quarter and can find time to join us in Scripps 111 at 6 p.m. for what will undoubtedly be another great meeting. Don't forget membership dues must be turned in this week, please make checks out to PRSSA.
This week we will be welcoming Todd Sharrock, vice president of public relations for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was named to this position in May 2006. He originally joined the organization as director of communications in February 2000 and was named executive director of communications in July 2005. He oversees the communications and community development departments for the Blue Jackets, including all media relations efforts, publications, player relations, multimedia operations and community initiatives.
Sharrock came to Columbus after spending five seasons with the Houston Aeros, joining the expansion International Hockey League club in 1994 and serving as the director of communications through the 1998-99 season. He also served as a media relations consultant for Houston NFL Holdings LLC during its successful bid to acquire an expansion National Football League franchise which became the Texans.
Prior to his stint in Houston, he served as the assistant director of public relations for the NHL’s Dallas Stars during the 1993-94 season, the club’s first in Texas after relocating from Minneapolis-St. Paul. He began his career as director of public relations with the Dallas Freeze of the Central Hockey League in 1992.
A native of Galion, Ohio, Sharrock attended The Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1990 and a master’s degree in sport management in 1992. While attending OSU, he was a student assistant in the sports information office and served as the hockey sports information director in 1991-92. He currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Greater Columbus Sports Commission and is a member of the National Hockey League Public Relations Advisory Council.
