Monday's Meeting, March 9

Hello everyone! Can you believe it is already our final week of winter quarter?

Thank you again to all the great professionals in Chicago for opening their doors to our members. Everyone had such a wonderful experience. We will post more pictures, videos and stories of the trip soon.

This week our speaker will be Wendy Jakmas, the recently appointed president of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce.

Prior to becoming the Chamber's new president, Wendy worked for PersonnelPlus, an ATCO affiliate, for six years and was a nationally recognized Job Developer. It was in this position that she developed her networking capabilities and a daily presence in many area workplaces. As a result, she brings to the Chamber significant experience in working with Athens county businesses and services industries.

Wendy is no stranger to the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce. Prior to working for PersonnelPlus, she served for three years as the Chamber's Office Project Manager. Wendy Jakmas also understands the trials and tribulations of small businesses. She was the Office Manager of a family-owned business in McArthur for four years, and Wendy's husband, Richard Jakmas, is a small business owner in the Athens area as well.

Wendy is a graduate of Ohio University and is currently enrolled in the Leadership Athens class of 2009. She is the proud mother of two grown daughters.

Wendy has been a resident of Athens county since 1996 and is involved outside of work in numerous community philanthropic organizations. She is extremely committed to Athens county and is especially proud to represent and advocate for the business community. Wendy believes that strong and healthy business commerce serves to enhance the quality of life for the people of Athens county and southeastern Ohio.

Don't forget that executive board memos are DUE TODAY. We will have elections the first week back of spring quarter. As always, if you have any questions, please respond to scripps.prssa@gmail.com. You can also check us out on twitter (twitter.com/ScrippsPRSSA).

The Bobcats take over CHICAGO!

This weekend, March 5-8, the PRSSA chapter from Ohio University will be traveling to Chicago to tour six major agencies and attend a networking dinner. Many students participating have only just begun venturing into social media networking on the professional level. You can track our progress by visiting here. If you wish to communicate with the group, please use the Twitter hashtag #ouchi09. We would love to hear any and all advice/comments/encouragement as we explore Chicago together.

The chapter has been split into two smaller groups so that each can visit three agencies. We have scheduled meetings with the following firms:

* Ketchum
* Fleishman-Hillard
* Ogilvy
* Edelman
* Ruder Finn
* Weber Shandwick

If you wish to meet with us at the Hard Rock Cafe on Friday evening, please send me a DM @PaulMatson or @ScrippsPRSSA. In addition, several members of the chapter will be taking footage of their experience which is being compiled into a YouTube video. If you are in the area, we would love to have you featured as well.

Update: Monday's Meeting March 2

As it occasionally happens, our featured speaker for this evening has been forced to cancel for personal reasons. We have moved up the time of the resume workshop and Chicago meeting to 6:00 p.m., still in Scripps 111. The first portion of the meeting will be a presentation on creating an effective resume along with an opportunity to have your own resume critiqued by an upper classmen. This is an excellent time to have your resume revised before you finish applying for internships!

There is the FINAL meeting for Chicago taking place during the second half of tonight's meeting (it will begin around 6:30pm or so) in Scripps 111. This meeting is mandatory unless you have let us know ahead of time that you will be gone. Additionally, please remember to bring check or cash for $18 (payable to PRSSA) to cover your meal this Friday. As a reminder, you must turn this money in before we leave on Thursday. We will go over finalized hotel rooms, travel arrangements and other details. Please let us know if you have any questions!
