Social media, leadership and generational differences

Hey all!

Social media overload bringing you down? Come check out “New leadership: New Skills?”, a symposium about social media and a great opportunity to hear from one of our very own alumni.

This presentation will feature:

-Chuck Underwood, founder and president of The Generational Imperative, Inc.
Well known for his research in underlying generational values and beliefs that have guided the decision-making of Americans for decades, Underwood will address how different generations of Americans have approached leadership. He will also touch upon the generational dynamics present in both the workplace and marketplace today.

-Jason Weaver, founder and CEO of SWAY, Inc. and Shoutlet.
Weaver is considered an authority in social media; he speaks for many organizations, including American Marketing Association, Public Relations Society of America and American Advertising Federations. His company, SWAY, Inc. has been consulted on the social media efforts of companies around the world.

The symposium, which is hosted by Alden Library and the Ohio Fellows Program, will take place in room 135, Walter Hall on Saturday, September 19 at 9:30 a.m. Ohio Fellow and director of the Scripps School of Journalism, Tom Hodson, will moderate a follow-up question and answer session.

Monday's Meeting, Sept. 14

I hope everyone has had a great first week of classes! Our first meeting will be tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. in Scripps 111. We will be hosting our first guest speaker for the year, Aaron Brown. Traditionally, we host Aaron as the first speaker of the quarter because he's an E.W. Scripps alumnus and a former OU PRSSA president. He always provides us with wonderful advice and tips from the professional public relations world.
Currently, Brown is an Associate Vice President at Fahlgren Mortine Public Relations, one of the largest PR agencies in the Midwest region, based in Columbus.
Please come out and help us kick-off another great year for PRSSA!

As always, if you have any questions, please respond to scripps.prssa@gmail.com. You can also check us out on twitter (twitter.com/ScrippsPRSSA).

See you there!

The Chicago Connection

Hello past, present and future PRSSA members! I hope all of you have enjoyed a fantastic Summer, whether it be completing an internship, relaxing by the pool or just graduating High School!

I have had the privilege of meeting and knowing many of you personally and am sad that this is my first year not being directly involved in the chapter. As your immediate past President, I invite you contact me with any questions about getting started in the PR field or simply as an alumni connection.

As some of you know, I am preparing to move to Chicago to begin at Weber Shandwick later this month. If you are interested in an internship in the area, I would be more than happy to assist you with finding contacts. Bobcats span the globe and are ready to help when asked!

You can reach me at pauljmatson@gmail.com or on Twitter (@PaulMatson). I wish each of you the best as you begin the new school year - I have no doubt that it is going to be the best year of PRSSA to date. You have an extremely bright and talent executive board with a fantastic faculty advisor leading the chapter. Good luck with your first week of classes and say hello to Athens for me!

Go Bobcats!
