Speed networking event postponed

Sunday, February 28, 2010

 Hey all-

Unfortunately, the speed networking event has been temporarily postponed until next quarter. However, we will still be meeting at 6PM in Baker Ballroom A on Monday for our last meeting of the quarter. Here's the deal:

-Dress is no longer business casual.
-We are going to have a networking event among members. This will give everyone a chance to talk about past internships they've had, classes and teachers they recommend, ect.
-Around 7PM we will head over to Buffalo Wild Wings where plates of wings and appetizers will be provided.

Hope to see you all there!

Speed Networking Event this Monday

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Do you have a need for speed...networking?

PRSSA’s last meeting of the quarter will be this Monday, February 1 and will give members a chance to network with a large amount of PR professionals in a small amount of time. Circular tables will be set up in Baker Ballroom A. Professionals and students will be spread out among the tables and members will have a short amount of time to network with each professional at the table; when the whistle blows, it’s off to the next table!

Please do not bring your resume to this event. If you have business cards, however, be sure to bring some along to exchange with the professionals. A finalized list of what professionals are attending will be released soon.

The attire for this event is BUSINESS CASUAL and it will be from 6-8PM in Baker Ballroom A. Even if you can’t stay for both hours, stop in when you can.If you have any questions, please e-mail Ali Myers at alikmyers@gmail.com

Thanks and see you all there!

JUNIORS Apply for the David L. Stashower Scholarship

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Offered by Cleveland's Liggett-Stashower, the David L. Stashower Visionary Scholarships in Communications were established in January 1998 to honor its former chairman who retired at the end of 1997. The scholarship awards are a tribute to Mr. Stashower's life-long achievements in advertising and his contribution to the growth and success of Liggett Stashower. Mr. Stashower's commitment to grooming upcoming generations for future leadership was a hallmark of his career, and these scholarships are a way to carry on his legacy.

The David L. Stashower Visionary Scholarship Awards consist of two $2,000 scholarships that are awarded annually on a merit basis to communications students attending an Ohio college or university. The awards are based on academic achievement, faculty recommendations and other documentation to support the applicant's request for consideration. The candidates must be seniors in the forthcoming academic year and majoring in advertising, graphic design, public relations or communications.

Monday's Meeting, February 15

Sunday, February 14, 2010

Hey guys and gals-

As requested by one of our members, our meeting tomorrow will be all about the basics of the profession of public relations. Our very own Michelle Honald has graciously volunteered to fill the chapter in about what PR is, the different areas you can go into in PR, possible salaries and much more.

Freshmen and Sophomores- This meeting will be a great help to those of you who do not have much knowledge about the professions.
Juniors and Seniors- This meeting will also benefit you when it comes to job searches and knowing what it is you are looking for.

Make sure to come with plenty of questions so that by the end of the meeting, everyone will feel more comfortable about what public relations entails. See you all at 6Pm in Scripps 111.

"Strutting their stuff for a good cause"

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Hello future and current PR superstars!

Thanks to everyone who came out and helped with the PRSSA Valentine’s Day Shuffle; if you are still interested in donating shelf-stable food items to the kids, please bring them to Monday’s meeting.

That being said, we hope to see everyone at the Mr. Empower Pageant THIS Friday, February 12 at 7:30 p.m to support PRSSA’s own Tommy Greene. Tommy will be competing against 10 other Ohio University students, each representing different student organizations. If Tommy wins, PRSSA will receive $100!

Admission to the pageant is $3 and all proceeds go to the Empower Campaign. Come out to support Tommy and, of course, to donate to a great cause.

Have a fun and safe weekend!
